Fall 2016 Update: New Research, Apps, and more…

wilogo_fbWelcome to our Fall update!
We are excited to tell you about new research projects, two new apps, meetings, upcoming events, and more!

New Research: The OCTO Study is Looking for Participants

We are excited to announce the launch the Online Census of Traits and Observations (OCTO) research study. The OCTO Study involves an online survey with 8 sections. Each section contains between 1 and 16 items. It takes a total of roughly 15 minutes to complete all 8 sections. We are seeking both mediums and non-mediums to complete the survey. For more information please visit http://windbridgeinstitute.com/octo/

New Interview

Windbridge Institute Director of Research, Julie Beischel, PhD., was interviewed by author Theresa Cheung as part of Theresa’s new book Heaven Called My Name: Incredible true stories of heavenly encounters and the afterlife. You can read the interview here. Look for Theresa’s book which will be coming out in November.

New Apps

CloudBlue, The Simple Mindfulness App: This app, developed by Windbridge Institute researcher, Mark Boccuzzi, is a free, minimalist app that can be used as a focus for breathing, meditation, mindfulness, or just for open-ended play. The goal behind development of this app was to provide a simple tool that people can use to bring themselves back into the present. The app is Android only and is available through Google Play.  You can find it here.

Psi Quest Games: Those who follow Mark’s posts on Facebook know that he has been working on a computer Role Playing Game (RPG) which allows players to test and practice their psi (precognition, psychokinesis, etc.) skills. The project has grown to such a large scope and scale that it is no longer practical to release it as a single application. Mark is now in the process of creating a set of mini-games based on what was learned from the development of the larger game. The first of these mini-games is now available for testing.

A Dog’s Tale is a short game that lets the player direct Barkley the Dog through a forest in an attempt to find as many of Barkley’s lost toys as possible. In order to find the maximum number of toys, players will need to rely solely on their intuition. The game was specifically designed to be slow-paced and meditative. This approach allows players to take their time as they direct Barkely along the path and pay attention to how they feel when they make accurate intuitive choices.

The game should run on any desktop or mobile web browser that supports HTML5. Other psi games will be rolled out over the next few months. Feel free to email any feedback about the games to apps@windbridge.org

You can play the current pre-release version of the game here.

PsiForms

As partmcover_t of our mission, the institute explores ways for people to live fuller lives. We believe that art can help in that pursuit.

PsiForms are images that are created when we use specialized software to visualize different types of data. More information about the process is available in Mark’s book, Visualizing Intention.

A free PDF version of the book is available for download or you can purchase the full-color print version from Amazon.com.

Earlier this year, Mark, worked with researchers and authors Imants Baruss and Julia Mossbridge to create a PsiForm image for the cover of their book Transcendent Mind: Rethinking the Science of Consciousness. The book is the first text book (that we know of) published by a major psychology publisher that starts from the nonmaterial viewpoint that mind is separate from the brain.

You can learn more about the book here.

Meetings and Workshops

What Can Psi Interactions Teach Us About Consciousness?
The Science of Consciousness, Preconference Workshop
Tucson, AZ

In April, Julie teamed up with fellow researchers Julia Mossbridge and Arnaud Delorme to create a preconference workshop for The Science of Consciousness Conference presented by the University of Arizona’s Center for Consciousness Studies. You can view the abstract here (link opens a PDF).

Joint Meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration and the Parapsychological Association
Boulder, CO

In June, both Julie and Mark presented research at the first joint meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE) and the Parapsychological Association (PA).

Julie’s talk, Development of a comprehensive survey of secular American mediums, covered our current OCTO Study (see above), which is being funded by the Bial Foundation.

Mark’s talk, Applying Machine Learning to Psi Research: An example of using a deep machine learning image classifier to analyze seemingly random visualized FieldREG data collected during sessions with meditators, reviewed some of his current research with machine learning and parapsychological data sets.

Abstracts from both of their talks can be downloaded here (link opens a PDF).

The slides from Mark’s talk can be viewed here (link opens a new window).
